Why phishing still matters after you enable two-factor authentication
Fake sign-in pages can ask for codes too. Learn how the trick works and which habits help you spot it.

A fake page can relay an ordinary rotating code while it is valid, so check the website and how you arrived before entering it. For important accounts, look at supported passkeys or security keys and keep recovery methods ready.

A fake page can relay a code immediately
A fake sign-in page can collect a password and code for immediate submission to the real service. That risk exists even when the code is valid only briefly.
Code rotation is a time limit, not evidence of the page's identity. Do not describe it as phishing-resistant authentication simply because the number changes frequently.
Protect your device and session after sign-in
Malicious software, exposed session material and untrusted remote control can undermine parts of the workflow beyond the second step. Securing the authenticator does not replace operating-system updates and access control.
Do not install unfamiliar support tools merely because a message claims there is a security alert, and avoid persistent sessions on untrusted shared computers.
A few habits worth keeping
Use known entry points for important services and inspect the address rather than trusting visual similarity. Treat unexpected reauthentication links, especially those asking for recovery material, cautiously.
Evaluate suitable passkeys or FIDO security keys on services that support them. They differ from typing a number, while still requiring sound device and recovery management.
Keep getting and entering codes in your own hands
Organize your regular accounts in Authenticator Cloud, using the extension on desktop and the app on your phone. Clear service and account labels make each login easier to follow.
Check the website and account before entering a code. For an unexpected login request, open the official site yourself and review its security activity. For a login you started, choose the matching entry and copy or fill its code.
